We arrived at home at 1:00 this afternoon.  It was a wonderful 12 days on the road.  It was great to touch base with family and friends.  Thanks to everyone who offered us hospitality along the way.

5:00 pm
Spent today traveling from Lexington, VA to the Cincinnati, OH area.  Started in the fog in the VA mountains and entered the warm sunshine as we entered Ohio.  TOP DOWN TIME!!
We are having dinner tonight with Jim's sister, Patti, and her husband, Paul.  Always great to catch up with family.

6:15pm
Our history lessons continue today.  We spent this morning at George Washington's Mount Vernon home.  And this afternoon we were at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello Plantation.  Both beautiful properties, so well preserved for all to enjoy.
It's Monday morning, but I need to catch up on Sunday.  The rain had finally stopped, but it was cool and breezy.
We spent the whole day on and around the National Mall in DC.  The first half of the day we spent in the Newseum.  What an amazing place!  Everyone should visit!
In the afternoon we walked the Mall visiting monuments and memorials.  Some we had seen before; other were new to us.
So much history to absorb.

Sorry I am so inconsistent in my blogging.  Catch-up time again.
Tuesday, the weather was beautiful.  We had lunch along the water in Kennebunkport, ME.  We arrived in Rockport, MA in the late afternoon for some sightseeing and picture-taking.  Had dinner at the Gloucester House in ... Where else, but Gloucester!
Then it started to rain.
And, boy, did it rain!  And rain.  And rain.
Wednesday, we drove to Eastham, MA on Cape Cod to stay with my sister, Rita, and her husband, Tom.  A great visit!  Bananagrams, dinner and lots of catching up  and playing with their pup, Salty, while the rain and wind roared outside.
Thursday morning, we set out (in the rain again) for Providence, RI.  We were actually in Cumberland, RI, where we visited my niece, Mary Rose, at her home.  My sister, Carol, is there too while Mary Rose's husband, Dave, is traveling for work.  We had a great visit there, with lunch provided by Mary Rose.  Yumm.
From Cumberland, we headed to Morris Plains, NJ.  There we visited with Marty and Doug Huss.  Doug went to high school with Jim, and Marty and Doug have been part of out mini-reunion and traveling group since then.  It was great to visit with them at their home, and to go to one of their favorite restaurants, Wild Basil.  Yumm again.
Friday we drove to Newtown, PA and took my niece, Katie, and her amazing two-year-old daughter, Lennon.  We went to lunch together where Lennon entertained us with her songs and storybooks.  Sorry to miss her daddy, Dan, but he was working and we couldn't stay long.
From Newton, we made the long, rainy drive to Gettysburg, PA.  It was an exhausting drive, so we had an early night.
Today is Saturday.  We spent the time at the Gettysburg Museum and Visitors Center soaking up all the information and history there.  So very impressive to be where it all actually happened.
It was still raining as we drove from there to Arlington, VA where we are tonight.  Spent to evening doing laundry so we are ready to see the sites in and around DC tomorrow.

Have fallen behind a bit, haven't I?  Last post was Saturday evening and here it is Tuesday morning already.  Time to catch up.
When we left Watertown, NY on Sunday, we drove through northeastern New York and the state of Vermont.  By using the state roads rather than the interstates, we could enjoy the old small towns and the beautiful waterways as we traveled.  When we crossed over from Vermont to New Hampshire, we stopped for the night in Lancaster, NH.  We had a clear, unobstructed view of the Super Moon Eclipse!  We hope the skies were clear where you were so you could enjoy it too.
Yesterday, we drove through NH into Maine.  Another beautiful state!  We had lunch and walked around the port in Bar Harbor.  Then we drove around the coast line of Mount Desert Island.  We never actually went in to Acadia National Park as we had originally planned, but we enjoyed the ride we had.
Today we are heading to Rockport and Gloucester, Mass.

After a week at home having the car worked on, Jim and I hit the road again this morning.  Tonight we are in Watertown, NY, where my sister, Marty, and her husband, Dan, had lived until about 15 months ago.  We just finished dinner at the historic Crystal Restaurant.
We had a beautiful day driving via Canada in the autumn sunshine.  Even had the top down for the afternoon.  Jim is soooo happy that the car is running smoothly again!
